76th just conform. Where do they get these ideas? ...oh, hhm, yes, Sir Wm A Smith. Now dash it, why did he have to be a military man? " (groan).

Hi, from an independent BB style Unit that is provocative (oh dear!). The 76th Glasgow
Company is the farthest west in the great city of Glasgow, Scotland, UK. Up until recently
we were part of The Boys' Brigade UK" but re-rorganised ourselves as an independent organisation. We have been going continuously for 117 years. Today it is based in the district of Drumchapel. This is an area of great challenge where we serve and the nearest BB Company is nearly 2 miles away. We are the only survivor of the 9 BB Companies that were here. At present we do not have a church connection and have a "BB Pastoral Committee" as a supporting body. However there may be the possibility of a Drumchapel Protestant Mission
and if that were to happen, we would link to that. Isn't it ironic that the only "BB" left is the
one that is community based??
Although we adopt a modern stance, we have no intention of ditching our uniform ethos or discipline, ranks, etc. There may be a tendency to dumb down and eradicate the BB's
military style past elsewhere......but not here. We feel that although the democratic system
worked in BB circles only a small minority carried the new "uniform" for the vast majority.
Whatever happens we will stubbornly, stick to our principle of having a uniform that looks like
one, emphasising ranks and so on. When the time comes that we can no longer obtain our
uniform items, we will adopt one that still has a military look or just go. The modernistic family image of the BB is difficult for us. We are not a "family" but a disciplined organisation with families.......
We have been called eccentric (and worse!) and we have remained whilst the other 8 BB
units and 4 Scout Groups have gone from Drumchapel. Perhaps our 76th way must be
saying something??
Feel free to gnash teeth, jump up and down or laugh at our cheek. Don't bother being "angry
from ...", we have heard it all before and very thick skinned.
Sometimes we feel we are in the middle of the Battle of the Little Big Horn - but sadly we are
not the Indians!
Well enough of this prattle. Come on in and visit a BB that is amongst the oldest in the world
and our critics think we are not of this world (!!). Anyway most of them are gone from the
scene and we are still here...come on and find out why!
